Keeping Up with the GBA

GBA Celebrates at Annual Holiday Party

The Georgetown Business Association hosted its final event of 2015, the Annual Holiday Party on Wednesday, December 9th. Over a 100 guests filled The George Town Club for a chance to celebrate the Georgetown business community, the holidays and the 2016 slate of officers and board of directors.

One of the highlights of the evening was an appearance by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. Mayor Bowser had her picture taken with party-goers and met with other DC leaders in attendance, including: Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans, At-Large DC Councilman Vincent Orange and ANC 2-E Commissioners Jeff Jones, Bill Starrels and Ed Solomon.

During the evening's remarks, Mayor Bowser thanked the business owners who are so vital to the DC economy and spoke of the many positive things that are making DC a pro-business city as well as a great city for residents. She introduced District Department of Transportation Executive Director, Lief Dormsjo who was doing a "ride-a-long" for the day with the Mayor and praised the work he has done since taking over the position early in 2015. Ward 2 Councilman Jack Evans encouraged everyone to do their holiday shopping in Georgetown. Joe Clarke of Eaglebank was also introduced as GBA President Sonya Bernhardt thanked them for sponsoring the event.

As a final order of the evening's business, Bernhardt asked for approval of the 2016 GBA slate of Officers and Directors which was unanimously approved-causing Mayor Bowser to comment that she wished all District business could be accomplished so easily!

Guests mingled and enjoyed mini crab cakes and other hors d'oeuvres prepared by the club's chef. Dessert was a delicious and impressive Loison Panettone Magnum cake generously provided by Via Umbria, one of Georgetown's newest businesses located at 1525 Wisconsin Avenue, NW.

To conclude the evening's festivities, local singer/songwriter Rebecca McCabe sat down at the piano and led a raucous sing-a-long of holiday and other popular songs.

The GBA is looking forward to another successful year in 2016 when the Association will celebrate it's 40th Anniversary!
